What happened to Bet St George?
Bet St George Ltd, operator of betstgeorge.com, was one of two businesses whose UK gambling operating licences were suspended on 28 August 2026. Both surrendered their licences on 4 September. In a further update dated 16 October, the Gambling Commission reported that administrators had been appointed for Bet St George Ltd. These are three separate events with different consequences: suspension, surrender and administration should never be used as synonyms.
Confirmed dates and licence information
The Commission’s notice listed Bet St George Ltd operating licence number 067818-R-341699-001. The initial suspension followed Commission enquiries into suspected shortcomings in social responsibility and anti-money-laundering measures. The regulator’s announcement noted that customers could still be allowed access to their accounts and withdrawals during the suspension.
On 4 September the company surrendered its licence. On 16 October the regulator advised customers who believed they were owed money to contact the appointed administrators at betstgeorge@btguk.com. That email address appears on the regulator’s notice; customers should nevertheless verify current contact details directly from the Commission page before transmitting documents.
What does administration mean for a customer balance?
Administration is a formal insolvency process under which appointed professionals take control of the company’s affairs. It does not automatically establish whether any particular customer will be repaid, in what amount or how quickly. A balance in a gambling account may involve deposited funds, winnings, unsettled bets or disputed bonus funds. How these are classified and treated depends on the evidence, the legal process and the applicable customer-funds arrangements.
Do not confuse “the company owes me money” with a guaranteed first-priority secured claim. The Gambling Commission’s separate protection-rating guidance shows that some customer funds may be segregated but not protected from insolvency.
What evidence should customers preserve?
Prepare a concise claim file with the account holder’s name, user identifier, last confirmed balance, transaction and payment history, pending withdrawal reference, unsettled bets, correspondence, terms applicable at the time and the dates on which funds were requested. Keep original files as well as screenshots and note time zones.
If a disputed balance includes winnings or a pending wager, explain how it arose. A statement showing only the balance may be insufficient to show what was deposited, what was won and what remained unsettled.
How to contact the administrators safely
Start from the official UKGC notice and follow its current instructions. Ask what procedure is available for lodging a customer claim, whether there is a standard form, the evidence required, any deadline, and whether updates will be published. Do not email passwords, one-time codes, card security values or copies of complete identity documents unless a properly authenticated claims process requires and securely handles them.
If you are contacted by someone promising a priority refund in exchange for a fee or cryptocurrency transfer, verify their identity independently. Appointment of administrators is not a reason to pay an unrelated third-party “release charge.”
What about BresBet?
The two operators were named together when their licences were suspended and surrendered. The Gambling Commission’s 16 October update about appointed administrators refers to Bet St George Ltd specifically. It would be wrong to tell BresBet users that BTG is automatically their claims administrator on the strength of this notice alone.
Frequently asked questions
Can I continue betting on Bet St George using another domain? The surrendered Great Britain licence does not authorise new regulated GB gambling activity. This article provides no replacement route.
Has the regulator promised a refund? No. The notice directs customers to administrators; it does not guarantee a particular payment or timeline.
What if I do not know the exact amount owed? Assemble bank statements and the last available account history, then tell the administrators which figures are estimates and which are documented.
Can I report possible fraud? Suspicious communications should be reported through appropriate official channels; separate any fraud concern from your account-balance claim.
Checked 27 October 2026. Verify contact instructions on the regulator’s notice before taking action.
